NP Rank:
iPhone OS 4.0 Will Not Run on Original iPhone
Steve Jobs Personally No 1st-Gen iPhone Support for OS 4.0
When iPhone OS4 arrives, early iPhone adopters will be left out in the cold, unable to multitask. Then again, the original iPhones are likely starting to show some wear and tear anyway, so fanboys and -girls will be looking for an excuse to upgrade.
No iPhone Legacy Support
The lack of old-school iPhone support is not really too surprising, as Apple routinely steers clear of legacy support. This is why there's no Apple equivalent of Internet Explorer 6, but the downside is that Apple products are expensive compared to their competitors.
If treating the iPhone as a mobile phone in terms of market comparison, the iPhone is updated relatively rarely compared to the slew of Blackberry and Samsung smartphone products.
Compared on a mobile OS level, iPhone has seen fewer iterations than Android-based handsets as well.
iPhone Early Adopters at a Crossroads
We'd be keen to hear if any of you early iPhone adopters are still rocking the original iPhone, if you've already upgraded, or if you plan to. Or, indeed, will you switch platforms once the once-shiny toy dies?
He did it again, and with his usual style we’ve gotten used to. Steve Jobs has replied to a customer mail regarding the future support for the iPhone 2G (do you even remember it?) and clearly said:
“Sorry, no.
Sent from my iPhone”
