iPhone for Verizon: CDMA Version Built by End of 2010: WSJ
CDMA iPhone for Verizon in 2011
Apple will begin building a CDMA version of the iPhone in late 2010, which Verizon can start selling in early 2011. AT&T, the gravy train is about to come to a crashing halt. Similar in design to the iPhone 4, the CDMA iPhone will feature a chip manufactured by Qualcomm.
In its report, the Wall Street Journal quotes "people briefed by Apple", but no CDMA prototype has yet turned up at a Bay Area bar to confirm the story.
Separately, Apple is also developing a new iPhone model, said people briefed on the matter. One person familiar with the new iPhone plan said the fifth-generation iPhone will be a different form factor from those that are currently available. It was unclear how soon that version will be available to Verizon.
According to Apple Insider, new iPhone versions will have different physical sizes, which would mean a far broader product range.
