Jambi (ANTARA News) - Jambi`s provincial administration is inviting foreign and domestic investors to engage in titanium mining in three of the province`s districts, namely Merangin, Bungo and Sarolangun, a spokesman said.
The head of Jambi province`s mining affairs office, Hermansyah Herman, said here Thursday, geological studies had shown that the three districts had "sizable" titanium deposits.
A South Korean investor had some time ago explored the titanium potentials but had until now yet to take follow-up action while the provincial administration was continuing to look for other investors.
In fact, geologiccal research had established that the earth in certain districts in the province also contained large gold and coal deposits, he said.
Coal had already begun to be mined in four districts -- Bungo, Batanghari, Sarolangun and Tebo.
The provincial administration would grant investors in the three minerals a number of facilties but also require them to meet certain basic conditions.
The basic conditions were that local people would be involved in the mining ventures both as co-owners and as workers. Local people should have a stake of five percent and the local administration a stake of 25 percent in every mining venture, Hermansyah said. (*) END
