Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) to Debut at Google I/O 2012
The 2012 Google I/O Conference runs June 27-29 at San Francisco's Moscone Center. This year, it's all about mobile: services and hardware. Remember when Google was a search company?
For those of us who don't have tickets (they're reselling for over $2,000), there's always live video... the Google I/O keynote speech starts at 9:30am PT on June 27.
What to watch for at the 2012 Google I/O Conference:
- Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean): an incremental change to 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich)
- A Google-branded Android tablet. Hopefully we'll get to see an Android tablet that isn't underwhelming.
- Google Cloud: Not like Google Docs, but an Infrastructure-as-a-Service product. Like (and competing with) Amazon's EC2, Google Cloud is an enterprise product.
- Android-Powered Home Entertainment Device: A TV? A set-top box (not like they sit on top of televisions anymore, but still)?
- Google Wallet: Maybe something beyond NFC, which isn't widely adopted in North America.
- Google Maps: A spokesperson hinted at a change in Maps, just after Apple announced its own mapping app for iOS.
And, yes, Google is committed to desserts just as Apple is to big cats. Whatever. Just make the operating systems work.
