He has not provided specific details at this time:

I was fired from my television job after 21 years of dedicated service at 1:30 in the afternoon on August 31st.  Details of this sad event will be upcoming in the days and weeks ahead as I seek wise counsel.  God has now called me into full time service to Him.

The Daily Press reports that general manager Doug Davis has not commented on the issue, only saying that Jon Cash was no longer an employee of WAVY.

Cash also preaches and travels as an evangelist according to the paper, in addition to helping get the highest local ratings for his newscast.

A Facebook fan page has been set up to Bring Back Jon Cash with almost 1,500 members.

I wonder which station is going to snatch him up and enjoy all of the new ratings.

I have watched Jon Cash for years. Tell Doug Smith he is the one that should be fired. To fire someone after 21 yeaars is just plain dirty. My channel will not turn to 10 any more.

I guess they don't realize that their ratings will go down very low.Jon was the backbone of that show and made it fun for everyone.I know he will not pray for the station. Please bring him backHow will we keep up with the kids, his wife and all that is happening.

Are you kidding me? Jon won't pray for the station? Are you completely ignorant of what Christianity is? I'm sure he will forgive them and pray for them because that is what Jesus taught us to do.

The sad thing is, I would be willing to bet that their ratings go UP, not down, at least in the short term, because you people who claim here that you will no longer watch the station, will actually turn it on still, just to see if they say anything about it, or to see how it looks without him, or just because its the news that youre used to watching.

I am glad he is gone.  I will watch that channel now.  He was so irritating and fake.  I'm sure he will move on to something more his thing.

I have met Jon Cash when he visited our church.. He is certainly not a fake. He is a very  honest and humble man of God. Very very friendly. I was very honored to meet him and his books are great. Wavy 10 is loosing a very valuable asset and God is gaining one..Good Luck Jon. We will pray for you. From Trinity United Methodist Church in South Mills,NC.

I so totally agree with Melissa!! The man was arrogant and talked down to us all like we were idiots. And quite frankly, I cannot believe that he has the gall to ask people to donate to (notice this) help feed his family first and THEN support his ministry. I know of many more people who are greater need of assistance than he is. Let him get off of his pompous butt and feed his own family. Thank you WAVY, it was long overdue.

He was the only reason I watched in the morning.

It is a slap in the face for Jon after all his dedication to channel 10. He does a lot of good work in the public schools too, promoting weather education as well. It won't be the same withoiut him. It is a dirty, low down thing to do to such a nice guy who has worked his butt off. I will pray for him. If they don't bring him back we are not watching Chanel 10 anymore. He is the only reason we tune in each morning/eveing--he has a good spirit that draws viewers.

I certainly will not watch WAVY 10 anymore!  At the risk of sounding selfish, this could not have happened at a worse time.  Jon is the only one who truly knows what to look for when forecasting the weather, and his explanations make it so easy to understand.  Now I don't know what to believe about Hurricane Earl.  I'll probably just evacuate.Hopefully he'll be rehired.  I'm writing them off until he is.

WAVy 10 would not have axed the guy without probable cause.  Something is rotten in Denmark!

That's a laugh. WAVY "axed" craploads of people last year, some of whom had worked there 20, 30 years, in the name of the economy. It's not the friendly station on your side it used to be.

We looked forward to seeing Jon Cash delivering the weather for most of his 21 years at wavy.He was like visiting a friend each day. As of this time, and until wavy reconsiders their grevious decision to fire Jon, we will not watch channel 10. The weather forcasters currently at wavy leave so much to be desired . Jermery Wheeler tries but just doesnt have the charisma, and the new lady, is boring . The exception would be Don slater, who knows his stuff, but that is not enough to keep me as a regular viewer, as I like the early morning, and 12:00 news, which featured Jon, as the weather forcaster. Lets hope calmer heads will prevail, and that Gods will  be done in this matter.

Oh be for real, you're still going to watch.

I knew that Jon Cash was in the ministry because he held a revival here on the Eastern Shore in Franktown at the Methodist Church. From all the reports and the stuff that have been swirling around about his departure, it sounds like he had a prior speaking and preaching engagement and with the sudden threat of Hurricane Earl, WAVY wanted him at the station for up to date hurricane coverage. That is the thing. WAVY is hands down the best weather coverage team in Hampton Roads. Jon Cash in the mornings and Don Slater at nights, WAVY just aint going to be the same. I can understand the station's point, especially when it comes to contracts and Jon's obligation to the station. We have all seen how much coverage is given to these storms by WAVY, WTKR, and WVEC. You have to realize that we are dead smack in the middle of Hurricane alley. When it used to be about one major hurricane every 5 to 10 years, now we are getting them every year at least every two.

I think the thing that will come to light through all of this will be Jon Cash's devotion to preaching and evangelism. In the end, it will be Jon's convictions towards Christ that will shine through. This was the classic case of Mr. Cash more than likely requesting the time off for the revivals several months ago and the sudden appearence of a threatening hurricane. The station wanted Jon there but he already had something planned and more than likely the station knew that. They wanted him at the station but Jon wanted to spread the word of God. Very interesting story indeed....

The Bible says Christians will suffer in the name of the Lord.  I will no longer watch WAVY 10

How am I going to handle hurricane season and the promise of snowflakes with out Jon? Everything happens for a reason. God knows what is best for Jon, and what is best for him may not be best for us. Or maybe he will just affect us in another way. He will truly be missed, and now I've got to find another news channel because they ALL suck now!

I've been watching Jon Cash since I was little! He made mornings fun for non-morning people. However, I want to know what happened before I make any decisions.

Are you kidding me? Poor Jeremy Wheeler is so awckward, Sagay is competent but uninteresting, Don knows his weather but is not engaging, Jon was comfortable with his audience and passionate about his weather and certainly goofy which was endearing to the viewers. Life's events happen for a reason.; destiny, fate, the will of God, what ever it is we believe in and Jon is moving toward a greater future. A similar thing happened to me last November and it was actually a fantastic turn of events. Sadly while Jon is transitioning into an exciting new phase in his life, we are left to suffer through boring weather coverage and a much less entertaining morning show. I guess I'll have to just look out my window for the weather and make up my own forcast! I get up too early to suffer through Jeremy's stiff and awchward weather segments.  Good Luck Jon Cash!

I don't really know the facts of Jon's firing at WAVY. However, I can say with complete honesty that he was the best weather forecaster I've ever watched. He was clear and concise. He made meteorology fun. Don slater is very difficult to follow. He talks in circles. When he is done it is difficult to really know what the weather is. I am not sure I will continue to be a WAVY follower.

I John Cash is the only reason I tuned into WAVY 10. Not anymore. Shame on the station manager!

Doug Davis has just proven his poor judgement.  He keeps a reporter with zero credibility (Andy Fox) but lets Jon Cash go.  I will definitly not buy from anyone who advertises on Wavy, and I WILL let them know why.  We need to let WAVY's parent company know how we feel about this decision www.linmedia.com/ Corporate Headquarters One West Exchange Street, Suite 5AProvidence, RI 02903401-454-2880 401-454-6990 (fax)

You said it exactly! How Andy Fox can stay and Jon go boggles the mind. I watch 13 on the weekends because I can't stand the ridiculous ramblings of Fox. Now I'll just watch 13 all the time...
