Kimberly Hester: Teacher Suspended For Not Showing Facebook Page
Kimberly Hester Was Suspended For Showing Her Facebook Page to a Michigan School Superintendent
Teacher's aide Kimberly Hester was suspended from her job at a Michigan school for an odd reason: refusing to show a school official her Facebook page.
Kimberly Hester was suspended after failing to reveal her Facebook page, which was believed to reveal an embarrassing photo. According to a news report, Hester had posted a photo of a school colleague with her pants around her ankles and a pair of shoes. One of her Facebook friends, who had a child attending the school, reported the photo to school authorities.
When Kimberly Hester refused to show her Facebook page to school officials. She later received a letter that said "...in the absence of you voluntarily granting Lewis Cass ISD administration access to you[r] Facebook page, we will assume the worst and act accordingly."
Hester was suspended with pay.
No doubt, the Kimberly Hester story raises the debate about how Facebook can blur the lines between personal and professional lives. Some are suggesting that people should create separate online accounts for their work and personal lives.
