"Legitimate Rape" Songs Emerge in Reaction to Todd Akin
Youtubers Bria and Chrissy are known making for making humorous songs about controversial political events, and they've come up with a response to Todd Akin's "legitimate rape statement".
In the aftermath of Rep. Todd Akin's now-infamous "Legitimate pregnancy" remark, many rape victims have been left wondering where their rape falls on the Spectrum of Legitimacy.
- Todd Akin "Legitimate Rape Victims Don't Get Pregnant"
- GOP Makes No Abortion Exception for Rape, Incest
Todd Akin, a Republican Senate candidate in Missouri, said women wouldn't get pregnant as a result of "legitimate rape". So Bria and Chrissy wrote a song about his theory on rape and pregnancy.
Enter: Taylor Ferrera. She explains to us what exactly legitimate rape is, and what can't be considered legitimate rape. "A lot of controversy over Todd Akin's comments on 'Legitimate Rape' and the miracles a woman's uterus can do when it happens," the New York-based musician writes. "But how does the uterus KNOW when the rape is legitimate? Finally, someone with the answers-me."
A little drunk? Illegitimate! Knew the rapist? Illegitimate! Married to the rapist? Husband's privilege! And so on.
