Lenovo and Dell have separately announced big layoffs following a dismal quarter.
Computer giant Lenovo will be cutting 2,500 worldwide jobs in early 2009, despite denials of an earlier layoff rumor. The company is hoping to save $300 million annually.
At its U.S. Web site, Lenovo said the job cuts will be made globally during the first quarter of 2009. The axe will fall not only on management and executive positions, but also "in support and staff functions such as finance, human resources, and marketing."
Meanwhile, Dell will be laying off 1,900 employees from its manufacturing plant in Limerick, Ireland, as it continues to restructure. the layoffs will begin in April and carry on through next year.
"This is a difficult decision, but the right one for Dell to become even more competitive and deliver greater value to customers in the region," said Sean Corkery, vice president of operations, EMEA, in a statement.

THE FINAL AND ONE AND ONLY DRAGAN, YES THE DRAGON SHALL RULE THE 21st CENTURY BUT STILL A QUESTION RE3MAIN UNANSWERED, AND IT IS: WILL THE PEOPLE OF CHINA ENJOY THE ECONOMICAL BENIFITS AS THOSE OF ENGLAND AND AMERICA? SUCH AS WAGES AND SALARYS,FINANCIAL AID AND GOVERNMENT GRANTS ETC AND WILL THE REST OF THE WORLD FLOCK TO CHINA FOR BETTER OPPERTUNITIES IN THE FUTURE? AS THEY DID TO FLOCK TO THE USA.
