Insignia's Little Buddy Child Tracker is a tiny GPS device that you can give to your child to track his or her's movements.  It looks like a small flash drive (see pic), and it's small enough to fit into a backpack, lunchbox, or even just in your pants pockets.

Engadget wrote a scathing review of this product:

Best Buy's house brand, has just listed an incredibly invasive and humiliating new GPS tracker on its site, and rather than promoting it as just that, the marketing brains have decided it best to aim this at paranoid mums and dads who've done such a poor job raising their offspring that they can't even trust 'em to trek out on their own.

While I find their opinion to be quite funny, I don't think this device is all that bad..  I mean, for only $100, you get a product that lets you know where your kid is at all times.  What's wrong with that?  Obviously, this product could be misused and could lead to serious trust issues between the kid and parent.  But bad parents are bad parents, whether or not they use this product.  Do you really think bad parents will just disappear if they don''t sell this product?

The plus side of this product is that there are so many fantastic applications that are super useful when it's in the hands of responsible parents.  Have you ever taken kids to the mall or to festival with a lot of people?  Hey, kids get lost, and parents sometimes lose track of their kids for a split second.  With the Little Buddy Tracker, + a smartphone, you'll be able to find your kid instantly.  Isn't that a good thing?

We can take steps to protect our children, I have found a company that sells a small device that uses GPS and cellular technology to locate children if they become missing or if they get lost. This device will give parents piece of mind and give children more freedom to go out on their own to school, a friends home or the store. The device is worn on a child and has an SOS button that they can press if they are in danger, the device will call up to 5 people you choose and give a location of your child, you may also dial the device and  listen in to determine if the child is in danger. To locate the child wearing the device you call it like you would a cell phone (it does not ring) and within 30 seconds you have a map location sent to your web enabled cell phone, it also has a temperature alert in case the baby sitter or nanny or a forgetful parent leaves the child in a hot car, destination alert (a message will be sent when your child arrives at the intended destination) and you can also set up a perimeter so if your child leaves the area that you have set up you and 4 others will receive a text message alert with the location of the child wearing the device. There is so much more. Our kids are precious and unfortunately in todays world this type of device is a must have for young children (pre cell phone users)check out the website for more informationwww.amberalertgps.ca
