Little Zangief: Casey Heynes Unloads on Bully

'Little Zangief' Video Takes off Via Reddit
A video was posted to Reddit as "Child finally snaps after being bullied". As advertised, it captures a fight between two kids. The smaller kid is harassing the huskier kid, punching him in the face and stomach. The bigger kid just stands there and takes it... until he doesn't. The bigger kid then picks up the bully and slams him into the ground. The bully then has trouble getting up as the heavier kid walks away.
A Facebook page identifies the bigger kid as Casey Heynes, who goes to Chifley College Dunheved Campus in St. Marys North, NSW, Australia. According to the Facebook page, Heynes is 16, though he looks younger in the video.
Viewers have started calling Casey Heynes "Little Zangief", after the character from the Street Fighter series. The original video keeps appearing and disappearing from Youtube, but a remix, using Street Fighter sound effects, has inevitably appeared. You can see the remix below, as well as a version of the original and a reaction video.
Bullying is a hot-button topic these days (Lance Lundsten's suicide is only one example), but PSAs mainly talk about either reporting bullying to teachers, or keeping in mind that it won't last forever. While we can't expect anyone to go on TV and tell kids to punch bullies in the face, many young people find that they have to lay down the law early to avoid several years of bullying. This video has proven popular simply because it captures the moment when a tormented kid just snaps.
Right or wrong, the option of hitting back actually exists, though there will likely be administrative (and possibly legal) repercussions. Bullies, take note: this could happen to you. In the case of the "Little Zangief" video, Casey Heynes was suspended for injuring the bully, but that bully sure seemed to have trouble walking. Bullying can be a hazardous occupation.

Having been bullied myself, I must insist that this is the only course of action that works. Reporting bullies is utterly useless in almost all situations, as teachers and school officials often do not give a damn; and when they implement sanctions, they are usually extremely tame and serve to encourage bullies to seek revenge.So if you are being bullied, fight back and do not hesitate to fight back, and fight back hard enough to inflict pain. There might be legal repercussions, but they are very, very negligible (let me insist on this point: completely negligible) compared to the long term trauma of having been bullied.I'm now 25 and for the last 10 years my abilities to socialize have been somewhat affected by the bullying I've been subjected to as a teen, and which I got to stop by resorting to violence. I'm however sane and doing fine in life... Things would probably be much worse if I had just "ignored them and waited for them to get bored" as irresponsible educators and stupid parents usually suggest kids do.

This guy did the right thing. Self-defense.I was bullied in school also and I guess I have learnt two things with it.The first is that gratuitous violence isn't good. You shouldn't fight back only for the fight. This is what bullies are attracted to and it's stupid & damaging.The second, you're mostly at your own. You need to resort to real actions of defense sometimes in life, maybe you get in trouble and you should be ready to take it.For instance, a regular bullier I confronted several times (near the equivalent to 7th grade I guess) insisted in bullying me even thought I started to be more calm and ignore anything idiots did to provoke me. Then he one day had exams in my classroom and at the break he started saying stupid things. I've tried to ignore, didn't work. He started throwing his heavy eraser at me. I think I've got it and throw at the window (the class was in three fights of stairs, I think), then he decided to get my notebook (paper one, not a computer) and asked me if it was mine & dropped it on the floor & started to jump in front of it. I don't remember what was the movie I just watched, but I was inspired that day and just went straight in front of him and told "yes, it is". Next thing was my feet in his hand breaking his wrist. He was down crying as a kid in the floor and his colleagues went straight for him.I was suspended (so bad I didn't have my convictions about property rights back then because maybe, just maybe, I could have used good argumentation to revert this saying it was legitimate defense) and almost no other time had any problem at school (and boy, I used to have a lot). I just was away for one day (even thought I ignored and went to my judo and basket practice as if nothing had happened, just missed the next day classes, instead I went to school and made some exercises in the officer's room).So what I'd recommend to anyone suffering from bullying is this. Keep calm, don't enter in fight you can get hurt (but if you have to hurt some bullier to protect your self or your property, don't hesitate: you've got the right to do so). Also, don't hurt just for fun or you're being a nuthead.For sure bullies will either leave you alone or confront you. If they do leave you alone, great. No one hurt. If they don't, react (but use only and only the fair necessary means to stop he/she/them for good). Only, only attack with physical violence if you're attacked like that and even so don't make use of unnecessary greater violence.

i wholeheartedly agree. i was bullied throughout grammar school.. that's 8 years. and no form of reporting did any good. Even the principal asked me if i was telling the truth.. seriously? I was too passive to fight, but i should have. They were pipsqueeks and i was tall. It totally screwed with my head. the bully deserved a beating and the victim should be rewarded.. there's no need for self defense, if there's no violence to begin with. all blame to the bully. if i had acted sooner, it would have changed my life for the better. i feel like i'm 10+ years behind socially. i'm good now, but how much of my life was lost/delayed? the way i am now.. if i saw a child being bullied firsthand.. i'd jump in and pound that bully good... then i'd pound his parents.. and work up the line.. until the whole dna chain was affected. fighting is the only way.

Same here. No end to the torment until I stood up for myself. People have to learn there are real repercussions, not just the scolding our nanny states offer.

I showed my wife and son this video and we are so proud of Casey, the little kid got what he deserved. I have always taught my children to stand up for themselves and more importantly to stand up for those who cant or wont.Violence doesn't always solve everything but it some cases its entirely understandable. This is one of those cases. Hopefully, the bully also learnt a valuable if somewhat painful life lesson.Well done, Casey!

I don't believe in violence but I will raise my daughter with the belief that she can physically defend herself if someone dares to lay a hand on her. Casey clearly was being cornered and punched and he had every right to defend himself. The problem here is what because Casey is the bigger kid he can take a punch but when he defends himself and the little guy gets hurt? Please the little guy deserved it and I was kind of hoping he punched out the little guys friend as well who walked up to him it would of set a double example. Quite frankly if I was Casey's parents I would sue the school board for suspending my child who was clearly defending himself. Unfortunately sometimes bully's need to learn that there are consequences to laying your hands on somebody else otherwise later in life if they try bullying someone they could get killed Casey did this little idiot a favor: Life lesson taught here for the bully: you physically harm someone your going to get mashed up and to the person getting bullied : Don't put up with it anymore don't be afraid to defend yourself to a certain extent. Good for you Casey!

I completely agree with you. The school should be sued for suspending Casey. Because Casey is bigger than the bully people will see this as wrong, which is nonsense. People argue that because he "is able to take a punch" that he shouldn't react like that, they are idiots. What Casey did could also reasonably be argued to have been legally acceptable.

My brother got punched by a bully over here in Australia. They said as it happened at the bus stop, they couldn't do anything about it. So the school done nothing about it, so my parents pressed charges against the kid for assault. He was charged and found guilty. Next thing we know the kid was at another school.

The school once again showed extreme stupidity to punish self-defense. Again and again they push the victims of bullying into the mud with the very rules they claim "Protect" them.The only ones harmed are the bullied children who can't fight back for fear of reprisal by the people they are supposed to trust, and the occasional kid that accidentally brings a nail-clipper to school or draws comic-book/starwars characters engaged in a gunfight.

This was absolutely wonderful. I am 19 years old and I wish I was him. Flat out, he is my hero, let his tale be told, the once quiet, meek and overall non violent mass of victims from bullying finally had someone stand up and fight back. Good job kid, you are my hero forever......

i agree with all of u guys but lets be realistic the average bully who gets targeted gets targeted for a reason- he is an easy target! Most that are bullied dont have the confidence to fight back bullies generally sense this.

I am glad this kid fought back. Honestly, what we do not know is how long that little kid has been bullying "little Zangief." For all we know, it could have been more than a year. Seeing this kid fight back is the best thing, because he finally gave back some of what the oppressor gave the oppressed. To the little kid that got owned: That's what people call "karma," kid. You give out pain, you get it back tenfold.

My main question, that keeps popping into my head was, did the school principle see this video before making his ruling in regards to the suspension. If not, this video may be able to prove Casey's innocent, and have this taken off of his personal records, which will ultimately affect his entrance to university.

You can make your feelings clear about the school and their treatment of Casey by suspending him (and most likely turning a blind eye to Casey being tormented prior to this) by emailing the school:

I think it'll be especially powerful if they begin receiving complaints from overseas (let them know where you're from and you're aware of the story). It will show how far spread this story has reached and resonated with people and hopefully have them start to implement programs for bullying prevention. I went to school out in the next town from where this happened and I was bullied, and a friend of mine punched square in the face for no reason like what happened to Casey by our school bully and he was never disciplined. If an adult did that they could go to goal. I think this school needs to be let know the world is watching and are not happy with the way they have handled this.
