Apprentice winner Stella English was ‘untrusting’, ‘suspicious’ and fond of ‘conspiracy stories’, Lord Sugar told an employment tribunal.

Ms English, who was given a job with the peer after winning his BBC series in 2010, was also labelled ‘reserved’ and ‘detached’ at the hearing.

The 34-year-old claims the £100,000 role she won at Lord Sugar’s Viglen division was that of an ‘overpaid lackey’ and is claiming constructive dismissal. She claims Lord Sugar told her he did the show for some good PR but ‘did not give a sh*t’ about her situation.

Reading out his statement, the peer said he was surprised when Ms English told him she was not enjoying her job.

‘I began to think perhaps the reality of work rather than the glamour of showbusiness was beginning to bite with her,’ said Lord Sugar, 65. ‘Her time in the limelight was beginning to fade. In hindsight, I can now see she was a very untrusting and suspicious person....Read more

Ms English said her role became ‘increasingly untenable’ and phoned Lord Sugar, but he ‘made it abundantly clear he didn’t want to see me’.

Lord Sugar later offered her a role in internet set-top box company YouView in June 2011

Three months later, he dropped the ‘bombshell’ that he would not renew her contract, she said.

Ms English said Lord Sugar told her he gave her the new role because he did not want to damage the integrity of The Apprentice or the BBC, or harm his image.

Ms English, of Whitstable, Kent, also said the peer told her: ‘But the fact is that I don’t give a s***’.
