Marking Standards in Simon Fraser University are Subjective?
After my first year at Simon Fraser University, I have found that I very much enjoy the University experience, particularly at Simon Fraser university. However, as usual, there were bumps with getting used to university life. One of the largest bumps was the marking system. Though the marking for core subjects, such as writing, math and the like never changed (you get the wrong answer, no mark), it was the overall marking standard for the university letter grades. There is none. However, before you cry foul, there are some some aspects that you must look at before you condemn this system, I ask you to take a moment to read this article.
As is stated on a course sylabus, at Simon Fraser University "There is no university-wide standard grade scale. An instructor adopts a grade scale appropriate to the level and the content of the course." At first, I was quick to point out that such as marking system is too opinionated. This may be true, should the professor have a negative opinion towards you. However, as I did research, there are systems which prevent such things happen.
Simon Fraser University Policy T20.01 clearly outlines the main guidelines for the grading system in SFU. It states that grades are based upon the academic achievement of the student. It also states that a student can appeal their marks before the Dean, should their instructor prove to be uninterested in their appeal.
In addition, this system is indicative of the real world. The fact is that in the real world, you will encounter biased employers and they will come down on you. Getting used to it in the university system will also give you more experience when you start moving into the career of your choice.

Can you mark this as opinion please? You can do that in the edit field of your story.

Point taken. I didn't notice the opinion button/check mark.
