Mass Effect 2 Sales Strong on Release Day

Mass Effect 2, the RPG developed by BioWare, had strong opening day sales. The game, being released on the Xbox 360 and  PC, had over 100,000 users online after only 8 hours after hitting stores.

The sequel, which follows Commander Shepard and a rag-tag crew on a quest to defeat the galaxy-dooming reapers, is so far the 2nd highest rated game on Xbox 360 ever, and is already on track to outsell its predecessor, which sold millions.

Strong reviews combined with a powerful marketing push (a 2-minute trailer Mass Effect 2 trailer was shown during the NFC football championship Sunday, which aired for 57.9 million viewers.

Mass Effect 2 was created by BioWare, part of Electronic Arts, and was worked on by 150 people over two years.
