The Mass Save Rebate Program (www.masssave.com/residential) in Massachusetts Starts on Earth Day But Website Seems to be Down

The Mass Save Rebate Program in Massachusetts was planned to coincide with Earth Day, April 22, but even though their website just opened at 10am it is already experiencing server difficulties and sometimes will not load at all.

This is a problem for people who want to trade their old appliances for new ones and want to get a rebate for buying an energy-efficient model. However if the website is down people cannot get a reservation number.

The original website barely seems to load, but a new website has been set up, and this one seems to be performing better at this time.

A spokeswoman for the state Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs says officials are in touch with the web site operator about the problem, and advised people to keep trying.

The state of Florida had their own energy rebate issues just about a week ago, when their website struggled to deal with the load of people wanting to get an energy rebate. Their website also shut down due to heavy traffic.

In Massachusetts, the government is offering $6.6 million in federal stimulus money for rebates, but they are on a first-come-first-serve basis so that is why the website is under such strain.

If you bought a new energy saving appliance, you can get up to $250 back for dishwashers, $200 back for a refrigerator, up to $175 for washing machines and $50 for freezers.

This program will run until June 19.

If you have any issues you can call the program's call center at 877-627-9271.

I called 1-877-627-9271 for over 1 hour and finally got through. I was so excited. I started talking with the representative about the rebate and then the line went dead. I started dialing again and managed to get through with 45 minutes only to be told that the funds were gone but they were still going to take my information--send me the # through the mail-and then I was to wait to hear from them as to when I could purchase my product. She said that people were putting in for 4 appliances and they would more than likely not get 4 so that's why they were doing what they were doing. Once she finished that, we were cut off again. You couldn't even access the website and the phone situation was even worse. I feel that this was done in the worst way possible and now I can't even participate in the rebate because I was cut off, not once but twice.

I agree.  I was on the website at 9am and it was up, but no access until 10am for reservations..I went back to website and would not load at 9:55am.  I called the number for over 2.5 hours and it was busy, busy, busy.  I finally got through and no more reservations, wonderful!  How about sharing among us....I would like to be energy efficient but cannot afford to do so and was so looking forward to this opportunity.  I think it just stinks, but wish the people who got it well!

Absolute B.S.!  I tried, tried and tried some more...the website wouldn't work.  Phone was chronically busy.  By the time I got through all the money, and the reserve money was all gone!  This is very messed up.  My buddy, who works in IT, learned that they were experiencing server issues due to the number of people so they limited the servers to accept reservations from only certain areas of the state.
