McCain wants U.S. weaned from foreign oil by 2025

Presidential candidate John McCain said today that if he is elected he will set the US on a path to wean itself from a dependence on foreign oil by 2025.

So he'll be almost 90 by then?

Calling U.S. dependence on increasingly costly foreign oil a "dangerous situation" threatening the U.S. economy, McCain said: "Starting in the term of the next president, we must take control over our own energy future, and become once again the master of our fate."

McCain and Democrat Barack Obama, rivals in the November presidential election, are locked in a debate over how to deal with a mushrooming energy dilemma as Americans reel from $4-a-gallon gasoline that has helped push the U.S. economy to the brink of recession.

McCain in speeches this week and last has outlined plans to provide incentives for development of electric cars, encourage construction of new nuclear power plants, permit offshore oil drilling and invest in clean-coal technology.

I believe is time to go for alternative resources of energy. Let's hope the next president invest a lot of money and effort in this cause.

good stuff:

amyjudd, I like this story. This candidate is following the lead of presidents and candidates dating back to the seventies.  Hopefully we will see more action toward less oil dependency.  Good story.

With big oil lobbyists funding his campaign, I doubt he will stick to this plan.

Funny he is making a promise he won't even be able to see through (Sound like Bush???).  If people are worried about him being too old now, by 2025 he will be long gone.
