The Video of the Guitar-Playing Cat is Fake

A video purporting to show a cat playing with a guitar during the June 19, 2012 Melbourne earthquake has spread across the web, even featuring on Australian news programs.

While the video is cute (cat playing the guitar!), it's also fake, in that the earthquake is just camera shake. The low rumble is also fake. Come on, who would turn their camera on their cat when experiencing the biggest earthquake in decades?

The cat video is a fun little web artifact nonetheless, like the sharks in the mall photo.

7 News and TEN News thought it was real, though.
