Quit Facebook Day: QFD Website Urges Users To Quit Facebook Over Privacy Concerns
As far as viral movements go Quit Facebook Day is a mere blip. At the time of this post roughly 30 thousand users have decided to quit Facebook. The popular social media platform has about 450 million registered users.
Nonetheless, privacy is a real concern for many Facebook users and Quit Facebook Day hopes to bring those concerns greater scrutiny.
Matthew Milan, one of the Quit Facebook Day site founders, recently admitted as much on his twitter feed. "I personally never expected high numbers [for Quit Facebook Day]" Milan tweeted . "But something doesn't have to be viral to be successful."
But the founders of Quit Facebook Day clearly have issues with Facebook beyond privacy concerns, specifically, those who agree with the Quit Facebook Day website believe Facebook is simply to big and threatens the notion of an open web.
The cumulative effects of what Facebook does now will not play out well in the future, and we care deeply about the future of the web as an open, safe and human place. We just can't see Facebook's current direction being aligned with any positive future for the web, so we're leaving.

They just made privacy issues easier for members to use.I'm staying. My kids are there...as well as childhood pals I haven't seen in 30...years.Honestly, people should educate themselves. And, if they need help, then it's up to us to help them. I have Firefox with scripts that block ads...Apps... I choose what I want or not.
