Forbes Magazine recently released its latest list of the world's richest people.  NP Staffer Rob Walker posted his unsympathetic take on the shrinking list of billionaires.  While many have been demoted to mere multi-millionaire status, one billionaire of note on this year's list is Joaquin Guzman, Mexico's most wanted wanted man.

The 54-year-old, who is said to be the head of one of Mexico's most powerful drug cartels, is 701st on the list with an estimated fortune of $1bn (£722m).

According to Forbes, last year alone Mexican and Colombian drug traffickers made between $18bn and $39bn USD.

In 1993, Guzman, aka "El Chapo" (Shorty) was arrested on homicide and drug charges and later escaped (reportedly hiding amongst the laundry).  Since then he has become Mexico's most wanted man and continues to be one of the biggest suppliers of Cocaine to the US.

I wonder... if Forbes listed "El Chapo" Guzman, did they list "El Senor De Los Cielos" Amado Carrillo back in his days... he was valued at approx. 25 billion, making him one of the world's richest at the time. P.S. $25 billion in his day is around twice as much now!

Do you actually think he is only worth $1billion??? The Mexican government has found houses with $205million, do you think he would just have 1/5 of his money in a house like that.... I say that is what he makes in a month or two... he is way underestimated by many... including Forbes.
