Michael Vick's PETA commercial

Ex-NFL star and dog-fighting ring funder Michael Vick, has been offered a new job when he finishes his prison sentence: to become a spokesperson for PETA.

Vick is currently in prison for funding the dog-fighting ring and is in talks to be a spokesperson for the animal rights company.

It appears Vick wants to transform his image through this PR attempt, but doing public service announcements, interviews and making donations to animal-rights groups.

Dan Shannon, the director of the youth outreach and campaigns for PETA said:

"I can do it until I'm blue in the face and it might not convince anybody. Michael Vick sure can. He can say, 'Look, I did it, I was wrong, and it ruined my career,''' Shannon tells AdAge.com.

Does make sense... but still really weird. Hope he actually learned his lesson instead of PR stunt.

Maybe he will do this, but right now Vick is doing a construction job.

PLEASE NOTE:  Our petition for DOG JUSTICE FOR LARRY NEAL was illegally deactivated on June 12, 2009.  More than 400 signatures were on it.  Many had shared personal info about their own struggles regarding mental illness among themselves or loved ones.  This is an assault on our First Amendment rights.  But when it comes to people who are complicit in the secret arrest and wrongful death of a mentally and physically handicapped citizen like Larry was and the subsequent cover-up that persists six years later, this censorship is not surprising.

For my part, the petitions are not really to get the USDOJ to perform an investigation into Larry's secret jail death.  The petitions are a point of contact with others, a means to communicate the needs of mental patients and their families and increase community awareness about this issue.  AS FOR THE USDOJ, IT WILL EITHER PERFORM ITS SWORN DUTY OR CEASE BEING FIT TO WEAR THE NAME "DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE."  That agency is paid by taxpayers.  Why should a government agency be paid PLUS petitioned to do its job?  The very idea is ridiculous.  See the peititon link below.  It was deactivated just after I published more information about Larry Neal at my Michael Vick article.

In the article, I compared the investigative and prosecutory effort that followed Vick's dogs' deaths to the USDOJ's refusal to investigate Larry's secret arrest and death in a facility where the USDOJ had an overview responsibility.  This is the deactivated link:

One can still look at the Care2 Petition for Dog Justice to see the wording and view international signatures and comments.  http://www.thepetitionsite.com/petition/380598497
