Microsoft Planning Big Layoffs

Rumors that Microsoft will layoff thousands of employees continue to circulate on the web and now January 22, 2009 is being touted as the date that any job cuts at the mega corporation will be announced.

Reports that Microsoft could be laying off thousands of employees this month continue to swirl around the tech world, as the company nears its January 22 earnings call.

Will they? Well, Microsoft is in the same downturn as everyone else. That said, the company has a history of not cutting workers during the downtimes.

Should they? That’s another matter and my frequent guest Paul Kedrosky -- investor and author of the Infectious Greed blog -- says yes. What’s more, he says Wall Street would be “as giddy as a school girl” if the rumors were true. Technology is maturing, and Microsoft needs to accept it and fight the conventional wisdom that you invest more in research and development in a downturn, Kedrosky argues in this clip.
