Minnesota's uneployment rate has hit 8.4%. While still below the national average, it means that, in real terms, the economy is not as healthy as stock bounces would suggest. If you find yourself on the wrong end of MN unemployment, you may want to check out UIMN, the Minnesota unemployment in surance program, which is funded by employers.
While layoffs arent' making headlines like they used to, people are still losing jobs at a greater rate than jobs are getting created: overall, 16,700 Minnesota jobs were cut in June alone.
“The June employment figures represent the challenges that people and families are facing in this difficult economy,” said DEED Commissioner Dan McElroy in a statement. “Even though Minnesota’s unemployment rate is more than a point below the national rate, we’d like to see more people connecting with employment opportunities.”
