Motorola Droid: Questions and Answers
The new Motorola Droid smartphone is set to be released soon, most likely sometime within the next few months. It is being hyped up quite a bit because it is seen as a legitimate contender to the iPhone and Blackberry.
So what's so great about the new Motorola Droid anyways? What makes it better or different than the iPhone or Blackberry? Well, let's find out.
Is there anything unique to the Motorola Droid that makes it stand apart from the iPhone or Blackberry?
The big selling point for the new Droid will be its Google powered Android 2.0 OS. The UI was designed to look and feel and function like the iPhone OS, but with a few significant differences. For one thing, Android 2.0 will be an open source software, so that anybody can tinker with it if they so choose. The iPhone, for example, is closed so that only Apple can make changes to its OS.
What is Android 2.0?
It's the name of the new OS designed by Google to run on the Motorola Droid. When it eventually gets released, the Motorola Droid will be the only smartphone to run on Android 2.0.
What's the deal with the small keyboard?
The keyboard on the Motorola Droid is tiny. Some people are having trouble typing on the keypad because the keys sit too closely next to each other.
Is there an on-screen keyboard, like the iPhone?
Yes, you can either use the pull-out keypad or choose to use the on-screen keyboard.
What's the size of the screen, is it bigger than the iPhone?
The Droid's screen size is 3.7 inches, slightly bigger than iPhone's 3.5 inch display.
How's the battery life?
The battery life is getting rave reviews for its 6.5 hours of continual usage, 220 hours of standby time.
Can you change the battery on the Droid, or is it locked in like the iPhone?
You can change your own batteries on the Droid, unlike the iPhone, where the battery is locked into the phone.
How does it look?
The design is sleek and thin but nothing to go crazy over. I think the iPhone is much nicer looking, but that could just be my own opinion.
Does it have a GPS?
Yup.
When will there be more information released about the Droid?
On October 28, Motorola will make an official press release about the Droid. It will be interesting to see if they announce a price for the new phone or if they say what the monthly rates are going to be.

Does anybody know how to send an AUDIO CLIP VIA TEXT MESSAGE. There's an option for pretty much everything else; record audio, video, pictures, etc. But there is no option to send audio through a text message. I had the Env2 before this phone and that was capable of performing such a small task. You would figure that the Droid, with all of it's capabilities, would be able to send an AUDIO file through a text message, I thinks its called MMS. But if anyone knows how to do this on the MOTOROLA DROID, it would be greatly appreciated. If the phone is not capable, I may just have to return it, but I really don't want to. Thank you.

I was just on the telephone with Verizon/Motorola Representatives and they have to call me back regarding the issue of attaching audio clips in text messages. It's aggrivating; however, they were very helpful and will provide me a call back. Perhaps it is something that must come out in a future software upgrade... who knows... but I'm not going to let that stop me from enjoying the phone just yet.... though Yahoo! Mail services would be nice - just as the iPhone was once new and worked itself out - don't worry the Droid will too.
