Cyber Attacks against the US Stock Exchange, the US Treasury, the State Department, and the White House took place earlier today, though no damage was done. The Russian MyDoom virus is apparently the culprit, though North Korea too k the heat at first. These denial-of-service attacks were blamed on North Korea, even as Soul also blamed Pyongkang for attacks on South Korean computer targets before tracking the source to an updated version of the MyDoom virus.
Several U.S. government Web sites, including the White House, as well as South Korean government sites were attacked by hackers over the past few days,
25 different targets were attacked in South Korea, including major banks.
South Korean intelligence officials quickly pointed the finger at North Korea, or pro-Pyongyang forces. But computer security analysts in Seoul said that they had tracked the attack as an updated version of the Russian MyDoom virus – the world's fastest spreading virus when it was first unleashed in 2004.

21st-century style Cyberspace warfare is now being fought in that electromagnetic home of TRON. A new kind of battlefield that does not rely on flesh and blood soldiers. The generals of this particular strategic battle are those "Ingenious Hackers" who will decide the final outcome of this electronic warfare. I seriously doubt that our faltering economy can survive a direct Cyber sneak attack...

According to Rod Beckstrom, CEO of ICANN, the attacks on the US sites were annoying rather than damaging or even particularly, effective.

If the attacks had been destructive the battle would not have been in cyberspace like tron. The battle would have been a JDAM hitting the origin of the attack, with actual people being killed. That is unless the Pentagon was bluffing when they stated that cyberattacks would now be responded to as if a missle/bomb/icmb had hit the USA.
