The two big players in the social media space, MySpace and Facebook are apparently talking about sharing music and video content via Facebook Connect - which enables access to third party sites via their Facebook ID.

The Daily Telegraph quotes Sheryl Sandberg, Facebooks Chief Operating Officer

“Facebook is focussing on building the best technology which helps people share content, while at MySpace they are focussing on more a content-led strategy. We would like to have their content, as we already do with many other sites, shared across our network because it is good for our users.

The two giants have been in competitng in social media space for years. Originally with Mypace dominating and now Facebook being the undisputed social media king.

The chart from the metric service Quantcast shows the grim numbers for Myspace (in green). Myspace has been re-tooling and recently launched a series of new music and video features hoping to stop the bleeding.

Now, the high level talks reveal where Myspace main strength lies - content. Facebook is a great way to distribute that content and if the talk turns into a deal then it may well be a lifeline for Myspace albeit one tethered to Facebook
