NASA has hopes that Wednesday's sixth attempted launch of the shuttle Endeavour will be successful, but is only giving a 60% chance of favorable weather conditions.

The shuttle Endeavour's launch has been delayed five times already due to weather problems and dangerous gas leaks, but NASA hopes the shuttle will be launched tonight. The shuttle is set to take off at 6:03 pm EST on Weds evening.

If they aren't able to launch tonight, a shorter mission could take off on Thursday, otherwise they will have to delay until July 26, when another window will open.

NASA says there's a 60 per cent chance of favourable weather for today's scheduled launch of Endeavour.

The seven-person crew, including Canadian Julie Payette, is due to blast off at 6:03 p.m. Eastern.

The shuttle is scheduled to lift off at 6:03 p.m. ET Wednesday, but weather will again be a factor. NASA said there was a 60 per cent chance of favourable weather.

I wonder what the average "per cent" chance is on launch days.

I'm not sure why they keep trying to launch from Florida in the afternoon or early evening.  Storms tend to be just hitting their stride that time of the day.  Anyone know why they can't launch in the morning?
