NASA Spacecraft Finds Ice on Mars
Evidence of suspected ice on mars now ignites scientific curiosity for new research. Is Mars between ice ages?
The proof came in a series of pictures sent back by Phoenix of a trench it dug with its robotic arm at the arctic circle of Mars, showing dice-sized chunks of white material that are seen to melt away over the course of several days.
"It is with great pride and a lot of joy today that I announce we've found the proof we've been seeking that this really is water ice and not some other material," mission principal investigator Peter Smith, of the University of Arizona, said at a press conference.
The presence of water on Mars is crucial because it is a key to the question of whether life, even in the form of mere microbes, exists or has ever existed on Mars. On Earth, water is a necessary ingredient for life.
Now, scientists will be able to tackle the main question they hope to answer: Did the ice ever melt and turn Mars into a habitable place?

patgarcia, very interesting article.
The key word here is "suspected". Is it ice? Is it salt? Is it some other white stuff that earthlings know nothing about?
Another key bunch of words is "ignites scientific curiosity for new research". Sounds expensive.
How about this: let's stop spending trillions on wars and bombs, and put that money into Planet Earth.
Let's focus our resources on the well-being of "this planet". What are we, a bunch of cockroaches who screw up this one, then move onto the next?
How about we forget about Mars until we figure out how to be respectful custodians of Planet Earth?
From all accounts, this is the best planet in our solar system, and any other solar system that Hubbell can find!!

it is insane to think that in this vast universe, we're the only living creatures. of course it's ice, and does sustain life. 2 million people who claim to have seen martians can't all be wrong, lol
