Needy Charities

The recession that the White House is warning might happen and many of us have been living with for months is developing classic characteristics.

You know times are tough when food pantry shelves chronically look like this. Folks doing all they can to keep their families from sliding down a class or two tend to cut back on everything.

The beans that would have gone in the food bin at church or at the supermarket a year ago are coming out of the cabinet to stretch the family dinner into an extra lunch.

If you weren't trying to hold things together in 90-93, you may have a hard time wrapping your mind around the idea of hard times that last and last.
