How Much Does Netflix Cost In Canada? Netflix Launches Online Streaming In Canada, Selection Not As Good As The USA

Netflix launched its online streaming service in Canada on Wednesday.

Netflix Canadian streaming service will cost $7.99 a month for unlimited streaming. To entice Canadians to sign up Netflix is offering a month long free trial.

Netflix Coming To Canada

Consumers need a PS3, or the Nintendo Wii to access Netflix in Canada,

and coming later this fall, Microsoft’s Xbox 360, as well as models from Sharp, VIZIO, Haier and Best Buy’s Insignia brand. Plus, they can instantly watch via Apple’s iPhone or iPad and on PCs and Macs.

News that Netflix was coming to Canada generated a lot of excitement but the initial response is more disappointment than anything else.

The selection on Netflix Canada is more limited than for Netflix subscribers in the USA.

1. The selection seems very limited for Canada. only like 15 movies per category (Horror, Action, etc).....

2. Very disappointed with the selection compared to the US site. No, family guy, office Dexter etc. If it doesn't improve during the one month trial i will cancel.

Netflix is likely encountering rights issues in Canada. Canadian broadcasters not only hold the broadcast rights but often hold digital rights for the popular U.S. TV shows in Canada.

One suspects, Netflix executives are figuring ways out to get access to those shows and movies not any easy task as CTV, Global, and their parent companies are all cable and Teleco companies and are likely planning their own services.

Streaming-only is somewhat understandable, considering the... difficulties that Canada Post has in even delivering letters to and from Vancouver, never mind the warehousing and physical-stock costs for building up a nationwide DVD library.

Still, the number of Wii and PS3 owners who will also be willing to pay a subscription service can't be that high.

I'd pay, but not $7.99 for this selection.  $2.99 maybe? Not that I'm that cheap, but the selection is that poor.  I entered 10 titles from my video rental place (Cinemail.ca) and they had only 1.

Netflix needs to have customers in order to add more content.  The more people hold off, the longer it will take.  Stop being cheap and order it already.

I love the idea of Netflix in Canada. Yes.. poor selection.. but just because I hate Rogers so much and Cogeco, I will pay the 8/mo for hardly anything and hopefully the selection will flower. Hopefully others will realize this has to be done to stop the monopoly that Rogers/Cogeco/Bell has on Canada.

Selection on Canadian Netflix sucks big time relative to the US one. Looks like we have to wait another 3 years to get a similar service quality.I am using usvideo.ca service to watch the US version from Canada. Works perfectly!
