Netflix Kills Qwikster in a Flash of Common Sense
Netflix Will Not Dilute Brand with Qwikster Spinoff
Someone at Netflix woke up the other day and thought, "Hey... maybe it would actually be a bad idea to change the name of Netflix' DVD service to Qwikster!" This person (i.e. the one with the brain) should be CEO.
Leaving aside the question of why anyone ever thought that would be a good idea in the first place, Netflix is backing away from rebranding the service that made it a household name, and is abandoning the early-Noughties monicker.
After all, when most people think "Netflix", they think "red envelope with a DVD inside".
This means no change: one website, one account, one password… in other words, no Qwikster.
Well, there was one recent change, and it involved raising prices. Indeed, it was a change that pissed off Netflix customers far and wide.
We're wondering, who came up with the name "Qwikster"? Maybe that would have sounded cool in 2001, maybe, but certainly not now.
