It's my duty to post credible new- iPhone stories... in this case, a potential new hardware version based on interactivity specs.

This is only really newsworthy to folks who are thinking of buying an iPhone in the medium-term: this thing wouldn't be released tomorrow, but potentially somewhat soon. Apple never announces these things ahead of time, and the leaks via fan sites only come a little ahead of the official release.

MacRumors has discovered that Apple's iPhone 2.x Firmware has evidence of the next generation iPhone which has been designated "iPhone2,1".

In addition, an anonymous iPhone developer that uses PinchMedia to serve ads in his iPhone application has noticed two hits from this unannounced model showing up in his monthly report. While both of these discoveries could point to a 3rd generation iPhone being announced soon, any details would be pure speculation.
