Finally the wait is over and after months of teaser pictures and shots of heavily disguised cars on Midland roads we have the real thing unveiled.

Jaguar unveiled its new model - the XJ sedan at a star-studded launch party in London. The XJ Sedan is the first new model to be rolled out after the change in ownership (Tata Motors, India).

Industry experts have said sales of the new model will be important to Jaguar Land Rover, which has lost about £1m a day in the past 10 months.

The Midlands-based company was bought by Indian giant Tata from Ford in 2008. The XJ sedan was shown off on Thursday evening at a ceremony in London.

It was designed at Whitley in Coventry and will be built at the Castle Bromwich factory near Birmingham.

The original XJ model dates back to the late 1960s and has been a flagship of Jaguar since then.

The current XJ model was launched in 2003 and underwent a makeover in 2007.

Designer director Ian Callum said: "The original XJ was a very stunning, revolutionary car and it's rightfully our place to go back there and proclaim that place again.

"I have no qualms whatsoever about changing the XJ into what I feel it should be and what the rest of Jaguar feels it should be."

1st impression..  It looks like a Volvo..

But then all the new cars kinda look similar.

This car looks gorgeous. VW actually came out with a beautiful looking car in January. It's their new Passat.

What I would really like to know is what percentage of the world's population will be able to at least get close to this car. And, how many families could be fed with the money it costs.

I am not impressed.

A beautiful car.

It doesn't look like a flagship car.

The difference between the XJ and the XF is quite minimal from the outside, it reminds me of the similarities between the VW Passat and the VW Phaeton.

And also it started to look too much like a Ford, this ain't a Jaguar anymore (unfortunately).

At least I hope they built it to be reliable car.

The car looks fantastic and scintillating. It is truly a matter of pride that the new model emerged under the ownership of Tata Motors.
