Split-Pi UDIO6025L Power Controller

A new solar powered bicycle has been invented that allows users to go faster and to use less leg power.

It is called Cycle Sol and works like a pedal bike, except has a solar cell lined canopy overhead of where the person sits.

When the user pedals in the sunshine the rays charge a battery that powers an electric motor in the back wheel, propelling the bike at speeds up to 15mph.

It also lowers the resistance in peddling to make it easier for the rider to cycle up hills.

And the handle bars are positioned on either side of the seat rather than at the front so you can lean back for a comfortable ride.

The bicycle has been invented by Miroslav Miljevic as an eco-friendly form of transport.

Mr Miljevic, based at Z & Co Design in London, says the motor can be fully charged while the recumbent bike is chained up outside on a sunny day, but if it is not sunny, it can be plugged into electricity mains.

It still needs a manufacturer, but it is seen by its designer as a step in the right direction towards helping the environment and saving on gas.

amyjudd, I like this story. It's good stuff. If it's made in China, it will break down fairly fast.

That is a good point - I never thought of that.

amyjudd, I like this story. It's good stuff.  I think you'll find that our very own Sir Clive Sinclair got there first (or at least I am pretty sure he did)!
