Nick Sloan, a 24-year-old reporter from Kansas, has single-handedly bought out the online edition of Kansas City Kansan newspaper, whose print edition was shut down by former owner Gatehouse Media in January of this year.

The newspaper domain is www. kansascitykansan.com. So far, it looks like Sloan is indeed the only one posting stories. His last update was from today -- September 22. It seems Sloan is in a hundred different places at any one time. Just today, he covered eight different stories, ranging from a city fire to local fundrasier. Looks like Sloan is tapping into the hottest area of the new media market -- i.e.: the hyperlocal news coverage. It remains to be seen how the community reacts. It is also not clear how much Sloan paid for this rights to the website.

"Right now it's just me," he says. "I have a few things lining up, but as of right now it's me and I'm looking to cover everything I can in Wyandotte County. I'm excited about it."

humm, I wonder if he has consiterd using a NP news gathering format ?

I think it would be a good way for him to cover all that is going on, but as a one man show I think it will be hard to manage much more.

Good luck Nick!
