Nissan in the UK are to cut 1200 jobs.

The plant in Sunderland employs around 4,900 workers.

Car manufacturer Nissan has announced it is to axe around a quarter of its workforce.

The Sunderland-based company, which sent workers home early before Christmas to cope with the economic downturn, said it will cut 1,200 jobs.

The plant, which opened in 1986, employs around 4,900 workers.

The firm halted production of two of its models at its Sunderland site in December when its production staff were sent home on full pay.

Yikes... cuts like this can't just be re-absorbed into the local economy.

Yea, that's the problem with big companys like this. When they axe staff it's normally from the same area.
