Nissan to recall thousands of vehicles
Nissan is planning to recall thousands of vehicles from 2007 and 2008 due to a faulty airbag in the passenger side. Less than 1 percent of the vehicles have the defect but you should definitely get your Nissan checked out either way. You wouldn't want to put your passenger in harms way with a faulty airbag.
Nissan Motor Co Ltd (7201.T) plans to recall 204,361 vehicles from its 2007 and 2008 model years in the United States due to the possibility that a passenger side airbag could fail to deploy properly in an accident.
The cars being recalled:
2007/2008
-Nissan Altima
-Altima Coupe
-350Z
-Murano
-Rogue
-Infiniti G35 Sedan
-Infiniti G37 Coupe
-EX35
Nissan said it began to investigate the issue in November 2007 after receiving several warranty reports of airbag warning lamps flashing. In late September, Nissan determined that a safety-related defect existed and it should conduct a recall.
In some vehicles, the passenger side airbag could fail to receive a proper signal and a supplemental airbag warning light could flash and a status light would illuminate to warn the driver that it is not working properly.

Here is a 2008 Murano that was rented, I've always liked the look of the older models, so we had the chance to rent one and try it out. Good clearance, I drive a BMW so this was a little top heavy for me, but a solid ride. I dont think I would purchase one, but for the weekend rental it's fine.

Good story. I'm taking my car in for a technical service bulletin in a few hours, not to mention getting a rattle taken care of and other scheduled maintenance. Overall I really do enjoy the vehicle though. Getting between 25 and 26mpg on regular gas. My 6 cylinder would get 20-21 generally and was a much stiffer ride.
Being that a fix for the airbag issue isn't available yet, I guess I'll be stopping by again soon. Annoying but better safe than sorry..

The top photo is of my then new 2003 Murano in sunlit copper after creating the custom rack and blacked-out grill. I have had some issues requiring service since then. Early on, rattling over bumps was a bit annoying. A tab needed to be cut off before shock installation (Covered under warrenty). Intermitant stalling at idle due to a Throttle-body problem (Covered under warrenty). Goodyear Tires gave me good performance but also excessive wear characteristics (1 set of Goodyear replacements and now Michelins, both out of pocket). Recall for a gas tank shield to be installed preventing damage from debris (Covered under warrenty). A few times the locking fuel access door stuck in the locked position. Had to disassemble a good bit of interior to get at the mechanism from inside to release the door (Handled this one myself). Now a safety recall for airbags within 5 years.
After all this..... I still love this car! Ride, handling, style, practicality and even fuel mileage are high on my list of wants and needs for a daily driver/vacation-mobile. Nissan delivered that and I expected some bugs in a first year offering of a new model.
Wish list for anyone of influence who may read my notes; For some reason, the Fuel Mileage display is removed when Radio is on and car is in motion. Can I get both at the same time?
