No more "I lost your number" excuses

After tomorrow it looks like we may no longer have that excuse for not calling/emailing/chatting or poking that certain somebody. Beginning on December 3 companies, individuals and organizations can register with a .tel domain name which will allow people to search for contact information on a sort of global phone book.

The good news is you no longer have to send out that embarrassing email to all of your friends when your phone fell in the toilet or you had to change your name to go undercover. The bad news? Now, more than ever, you will not be hard to find.

Because the data is stored in the DNS, rather than on a server, when a person updates a phone number or address using their .tel account, it is automatically updated in the address books of their friends who have their .tel information stored on a smartphone or other mobile device.
