VOICE OF AMERICA SPOTLIGHTS PREPARATIONS TO BUILD BERING STRAIT TUNNEL

An April 28 dispatch from the Voice Of America's Russia Watch, spotlights Russian preparations for building the link to the United States through the Bering Strait tunnel.

With the Arctic Circle view map by Victor Razbegin, the deputy chairman of the Russian Council for the Study of Productive Forces, who produced a paper for the 2007 Kiedrich Schiller Institute conference, the short article stresses that, "in the Kremlin, leaders are thinking big again."

Author Fyodor Soloview cites Putin's vow to spend $17 billion a year for new and improved railroads in the Far East, and Yakunin's push for the same. Yakunin is also cited as saying that China is interested in the project.

The U.S. response is not noted, not even a private response from WalMart, Best Buy, or McDonalds.
