Now cars come with bluetooth and without cup holders

Safety will drive us crazy. From home to job and while going back from job home – restrictions are everywhere.

And don't you get annoyed when after a hard day at work you get stuck in traffic jam and after getting out of it have to stick with speed limits. Rules are annoying. But we have to stick to them.

And you know what – government think it can save your or mine life.

But I wish there was less restrictions on the roads. For normal people, like you or me. The ones, who don't target another road accident. The ones knowing that driving on ice is rather dangerous than exciting. Less rules for responsible people.

But this will never happen.

There are and always will be people who want to make our life easier. And you know what they do – fit more safety stuff. Anywhere, where they can fit it. And that fitting fever for cars went a bit too far.

The rear pillars got too 'fat', all safety equipment became rather heavy and the thought that hitting a badge won't hurt both sounds wrong.

We'll hit badges and foxes because the communication links are intervening into countryside more and more. And making the bonnet 'human friendly' won't help in this case either. Not cars should be safer but the roads that we drive on.

If you haven't been in Poland since it entered EU you missed rather a lot. New cars should have been brought not onto smooth German roads and the Nurburgring but onto Poland roads. All the twisty turns and passing every village possible – that's not only animals hell but pedestrians' as well.

Sometimes when you pull over at roundabout or unusual junction you get a rather annoying problem – you can't see a thing. The pillars, one of main car safety feature, got fat. And I really mean fat.

And it's not only when pulling at junctions. Try reversing and not hitting anyone. It will be a rather hard task because you won't be able to see the obstacle quick and early enough. And it's not our fault. We haven't made the cars. We haven't designed them.

I do fully understand car designers and developers. They do care about safety and aesthetics. Well, first one maybe a bit more than second.

Go back to 1960s when one of the first Mini's been introduced. It seemed that you would be able to fit one in your pocket without any effort. But not any more. Even it's the same car, sort of, but it became massive. Now it's heavy and lazy. And all this because of the safety equipment.

Yes, your mum wants to be sure that kids will get home safe and that's one of the reasons why we hate driving through schools in the morning. 'Chelsea tractors' are thought to be one of the safest things for school runs. But there's only one side people think about when buying a 4x4.

Four wheel drive cars are rather safe, I have to admit. But the centre of gravity is considerably high. And cornering in rather normal speeds makes it lean. Which brings it closer to a crash.

Now we can easily choose cars rated with five stars in safety. The ones that got more air bags than we would find pillows at home. But also the ones that we will be able to enjoy a film while cruising on the motorway.

But there's no need to fit all the possible gadgets in. Cars been designed and developed to make our lives easier by doing shopping and going to work. But now we can check our e-mails, get a massage and... crash.

And the thing is we don't need all this. Leave air conditioning and radio. That's it. In this way cars will be lighter. And that will mean more power as there won't be massive weight to carry round.

And put everything else only as optional extras. This will save some money for people wanting driving experience and not home cinema.

Bring back cup holders and velvet seats. Fix roads and fill up the potholes. And just let us enjoy the pleasure of one thing – simple driving.
