NZ charity is going global to help Orphan Help Centre in Nepal
Capital Cause Charitable Trust has launched a social media driven campaign to raise funds for the Orphan Help Centre in Nepal.
Participants in the campaign have the chance to win a trip to Nepal with return flights from any location in the world, an Intrepid Travel 16 day Annapurna Sanctuary trip and a selection of Icebreaker clothing.
Use of social media in cause related fundraising is not unusual these days but is still a fairly new concept for New Zealand based non-profits.
Capital Cause was founded by and is operated by five individuals who provide their time on a voluntary basis. The leap has been made from running small but effective events in their home town of Wellington to a global perspective. The team have embraced social media and plan to continue a variety of online campaigns.
Recipient of the funds, the Orphan Help Center in Kathmandu, was founded by New Zealander Amanda Kyne and provides a safe home and private education for 18 children. With an approximate annual running cost of NZ$24,000 per year the aim is provide funding for at least one year.
The campaign is run using free social media platforms and tools including Flickr, Facebook, Twitter and Givealittle.
Taking a simple offline idea of 'how many jelly beans are in this jar' Capital Cause have packed a backpack with a range of items and ask participants to guess the weight of the backpack. Photos of each item are provided to help make a guess.
Entries can be made until 31 July 2009 (when the backpack will be weighed at Wellington Airport). Entries at the Facebook group 'Win a Trip to Nepal with Capital Cause' or at www.capitalcause.org.nz
