It's official. Toshiba just made a statement saying, " it will no longer develop, manufacture and market HD DVD players and recorders." Cessation of the player and recorders are targeted for March 2008. Volume production of HD DVD disk drives for PCs and games will end in the same time frame.

Surely field day at Sony HQ -- already PS3 sales surged and just watch what will happen now. Microsoft will need to sell a BluRay player for the Xbox-360. Original press release in English: http://www.toshiba.co.jp/about/press/2008_02/pr1903.htm . Update: Toshiba stock prices have risen by six percent.
