Ohio Gov Ted Strickland (D) Cutting Charter School Funding
Ohio governor Ted Strickland (D) is planing to cut funding drastically for community schools by 75% leaving some inner-city kids without a school choice and leaving thousands of Teachers,Board Members,Support Staff, and Landlords jobless as community schools have a large impact in cities like Akron,Cleveland,Cincinnati. This would also take a toll on companies like Time Warner Cable, AT&T, Verizon,First Student,Dell,HP,Apple and local fast food restaurants as they all depend on schools and the staff members. Nevertheless, this would take a massive toll on students as school systems like Cleveland Metropolitan, East Cleveland City, Cleveland Heights-University Heights City are all below a Effective rating. It would also mean that proven programs like Ohio Virtual Academy, Citizens Academy, EPREP, and The Intergenerational School would be forced to shut down because they depend on tax dollar support from the Ohio Department of Education.
The Proposal named HB-1 is being crircized by many as racist because it is a known fact that most of Ohio's charter schools serve African-American students in urban communities who cant afford private schooling. Some say Strickland should be ashamed of him self because the plan is spacifficaly designed to hurt minority students, most of whom qualify for Title 1 funding because of low reading or math scores and if the plan were to be aproved it would place thousands of students back into Cleveland Metro's failing school system. Strickland should just know that if this plan were approved it would make Ohio's economic issue an economic crisis and it would mean more highschool dropouts on city corners wasting public tax dollars which would make property values drop even more as people run out of Ohio to other states where both Jobs and Charter schools are.
