Investigations have started in Maryland over one thousand foreclosures improperly executed. Charges have been brought against legal firm Shapiro & Burson by former employee for indulging in robo signings.

Forty two years old Jose Portillo of Fairfax had filed the complaint after he and others had been fired by the firm. He stated that a paralegal used to forge the name of a lawyer. A manager of the firm falsified the signature of another lawyer on both the affidavits and deed. The lawyer had given the permission for this to be done."
