Overheating Computers? IBM Plans to Ice Them Down
Chances are, it does, and even more frequently than you know. IBM has developed a prototype that uses cold water to cool your chips.
A network of tiny pipes of water could be used to cool next-generation PC chips, researchers at IBM have said.
Scientists at the firm have shown off a prototype device layered with thousands of "hair-width" cooling arteries.
They believe it could be a solution to the increasing amount of heat pumped out by chips as they become smaller and more densely packed with components.

Two IBM logos: a modern (blue, 8-bar, 120x52) & classic (black, 8-bar, 500x188) stored as part of my personal (but open) Flickr account.

My thanks to everyone who contributed photos and graphics to this story. I've been without air conditioning for two weeks (new system finally went in yesterday!) and I've had to shut my computer down because of--overheating in the 99 degree environment.

set energy saver lower, not for highest performance, and hard disks to shut down or spin down when possible. My laptop was overheating like it was going out of style, till I did that.
