The much-hyped Palm Pre has finally gotten an official US release date: June 6. It will launch on the Sprint network, alas, but will only cost two hundred bucks after alll the rebates, paperwork, etc. No release date has been announced for Europe, Asia, Canada, Australia, Central/South America, or anywhere else.
Needless to say, it will launch with a whole raft of accessories, as does any self-respecting smartphone.
Interestingly, the release date is a Saturday, which in some ways is a good move since it allows for weekend sales. Making the Pre available at other retailers is also a nice move. However, June 6 is two days before the start of Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference, where we'll most likely see a new iPhone announcement.

Rebates are for marketing but it is also to offset costs on the books. Sprint has to pay Palm $300 per Pre sold. So by offering a $100 rebate they can advertise the same price but they don't have to put a big negative in there cash flo by all the purchases right away. This allows them to pay you $100 after you are already sending them a monthly fee. (and not everyone sends them in)
