Tonight, the moon is at it's closest perigee (the point in the orbit of a heavenly body, especially the moon, or of an artificial satellite at which it is nearest to the earth) since 1994. It appears as 30% brighter and 14% bigger than other full moons this year. Another effect the perigee will have is that it is expected to cause larger than normal tides.
