Personnel Records Stolen from MoD

The UK is a very, very dangerous place if you're a database. Usually, though, government and military officials just leave sensitive info lying around; this time a collectoin of hard drives was stolen from a secure area, compromising the contact and banking info of hundreds of thousands of people who work (or have worked) for the Ministry of Defence.

The information was stored on computer hard drives at the Service Personnel and Veterans Agency at the RAF Innsworth site near Gloucester.
The theft of the files took place on 17 September, within a high-security area on the base.
The MoD has set up a helpline for people who have been affected.
It said it was treating the breach "extremely seriously".
