Petronas ready to invest in Indonesia, says Malaysian deputy PM

Malaysian oil company Petronas is ready to invest in Indonesia if the Indonesian government asks the company to do so, Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak said on Monday evening.

"Petronas is certainly ready if the Indonesian government offers the company an opportunity to do so," Najib told ANTARA and Bernama at the VVIP room of Halim Perdanakusuma Airport before flying back to Kuala Lumpur.

Speaking in the company of Malaysian Ambassador to Indonesia Dato Zainal Abidin bin Mahamad Zain, Najib said Petronas was operating in some 30 countries and now expanding its oil and gas exploration operations in Chad and Libya.

"Petronas is active in those countries but if there are oil and gas reserves in Indonesia to be explored, I think it will have a positive impact on the two countries," Najib said.

Petronas and Indonesian state oil company PT Pertamina actually had a strategic cooperation in the downstream sector, namely Lubricant Oil Blending Plant (LOBP) since August 2006.
