Happy Tuesday everyone!

I need a new computer… About 4 months ago my computer decided it didn’t want to live anymore and killed its power supply. It was sad, but we thought we would buy a new power supply and bring him back to life; well apparently he didn’t want to come back to life because the new power supply did nothing to bring him back from computer hell.

So we have been looking around seeing what’s out there at a reasonable price that will allow me to play some fairly graphic intense games (EQ II) and have seen a few that have caught our eyes.

The other day I was going through some old magazines when I ran across this old Micron add, for a Pentium computer.
166MHz Pentium,
512KB pipeline burst cache flash bios,
12X CD-Rom,
3.5” floppy drive,
16-bit stereo sound with speakers,
PCI 64-bit 3D video, MPEG, 4MB EDO Ram,
64MB EDO Ram, 3.1GB EIDE hard drive
28.8 modem/fax all for only $2,949.00…

Of course this was back in 1996, if you were to pay that much today you could get
Intel® Core i7 940, Quad Core Processor - 2.93GHz,
6GB PC3-10600 DDR3 SDRAM memory (3x2GB),
6-in-1 Media Reader bay,
1TB 7200RPM SATA 3Gb/s hard drive,
20X DVD Burner with Lightscribe Technology,
BluRay DVD Player,
2 x ATI Radeon 4850 HD with 512MB each
and still have about $800.00 left over to buy HP w2558hc 25.5" Widescreen LCD Monitor (1920 x 1200, 1000:1, 3GTG) and still have $350.00 left over.

Anyway the point is it’s amazing how much things change price and technology wise and the latest and greatest is usually beyond the average person’s reach…
