Playstation Network Still Not Online May 9: No Date Given

The Playstation Network is Still Down on Monday May 9 2011

Despite plans to have the Playstation Network back up and running over the weekend, the Playstation Network is still down, and a new date or timeframe has not been given.The Playstation Network has been down since April 21, and despite numerous updates, the network is still offline.

A message from Howard Stringer, Chairman, CEO, and President of the Sony Corporation, stated on the Playstation blog, May 5, that the wait will only be a few more days, but a new update provided on May 6 just asks for continued patience and apologies for the network outage.

Playstation says they were unaware of the extent of the attack on the servers when they held the press conference in Japan last week, so that is why service still has not been restored. 

Last week a separate attack on Sony Online Entertainment resulted in 2.46 million users having their personal information stolen, along with 20,000 credit card or bank account numbers. 

Sony is now testing security internally, but no doubt users wish they would just hurry up and get the system back online.
