Porn Comes to the iTunes App Store

Apple has allowed Porn into the iPhone App Store. Say what?! I said, Apple. Has allowed. Porn. Into the App Store. Specifically, the first app is called Hottest Girls: 2200+ Topless, Sexy Babes and Nude Models. Classy.
Wait a sec, what happened to all that moral panic and knee-jerk hand-wringing?
Why has Apple, a company which banned an e-book application from the same store because it could be used to download the Kama Sutra, suddenly started selling smut? Because the 3.0 iPhone software update now allows age restrictions for applications. Also, when I downloaded the application to test it, a new alert popped up asking me if I am over 17. I said yes.
So, since the phone asks you if you're over 17 and presumes you'll tell the truth, all sorts of top-shelf applications, prefviously banned, get a new lease on life. Parents: this means that, if you for some reason gave your 15-year-old a high-end smartphone, you'll have to keep an eye on what he or she is downloading.
This also means that iBoobs can make a comeback. Whew. The iPhone is suddenly relevant again.
So for all you pr0n fans, no more credit-card payments to kinkylatexdonkey dot com- you already have an iTunes account. It may take a few seconds for more "mature" apps to become available, but it surely won't take much longer.
The larger... issue here is that Apple, with its closed system of distribution, does what it wants, when it wants.

The app has since been shut down according to both Newsy (http://www.newsy.com/videos/iporn) and CNN (http://apple20.blogs.fortune.cnn.com/2009/06/26/the-rise-and-fall-of-the-iphone-peep-show/).
